The Wicomico County Education Association (WCEA) is an affiliate of the
National Education Association as well as the Maryland State Teachers
Association. WCEA works diligently to respond effectively to the needs of Wicomico County's
educators. We offer assistance to classroom teachers, guidance
counselors, speech pathologists, media specialists and other non-supervisory
certified educators in the Wicomico County Public Schools who are Unit one
employees.
Workplace
Representation
WCEA's experienced field staff works with members to solve both individual
and school-wide problems. WCEA building representatives
advocate for the interests of their colleagues at monthly meetings, and keep them informed
about, and involved in, the work of the Association.
Collective
Bargaining
The main purpose of the
WCEA is to negotiate a contract between Unit 1 employees and the Board of Education.
Political and
Legislative Action
WCEA monitors and works with the Board of Education, local, state and
federal legislators concerning legislation that impacts the classroom
teacher. To all candidates for elected office, WCEA offers an
endorsement process. All questions and points of discussion during this
endorsement process are concerned only with educational questions. The
candidate’s position on all issues other than those which directly effect
public education are not considered.
Professional
Development
WCEA offers professional development through MSTA and NEA to improve
instructional as well as leadership skills and strategies.
